Mad Dog Threesome

Tracking Dogs

Time: 1830 Hours.

Weather: Clear with a slight breeze

Location: Sungai Ara, Penang

Chee Yi and I had just enjoyed a ride down the slopes of Desa Relau and were wondering around the Sungai Ara residential area, trying to locate Shih Hui’s house.

We had not much luck and decided to return to the main road.

Cycling down the road at a leisurely pace, the threads of life seemed to be suspended in a perfect equilibrium. The wind rushed by, whispering a tune of unending tranquility; everybody seemed to be frozen in time.

Murphy’s law states that:

Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

And calamity stroke.

We were cruising at a moderate pace when 2 dogs rushed out from a house to our right, tearing after us. For some inexplicable reason, they had decided to chase us. I immediately switched to a 3-5 gear (for acceleration) while Chee Yi changed to 3-7(the maximum bicycle speed). Gears and clutches groaned in agony. Right behind us, the two dogs chased after us, jaws open, saliva dripping, and barking madly.

Our bicycles were much quicker than the dogs and we thought we were free until the houses gave to way to reveal a dead end. A dead end in the middle of Sungai Ara! As Ironical as it was, this whole scene almost seemed to be taken out from a comic book.

Tyres screeching and cursing loudly, we kicked out bicycles into a sharp 180 degrees turn.  We were quick enough to evade the two mad dogs, but the chase was far from over.

As we dodged into a side alley and raced towards safety, a white dog leaped out from nowhere. Deciding that my red gloves, helmet and bicycle presented a juicy target, it came tearing after me. The next thing I knew it had latched its mouth to my left ankle. There was shock, fear and anger, but luckily, no pain. My legs were pumping furiously on the pedals so it failed to get a good grip on me.

We raced out of the alley, and the mad barks gradually ceased to a deathly silence.

Making sure we were in the clear, I finally took a look at my ankle. The dog’s teeth had not managed to penetrate my skin, but that wasn’t the case for my poor sock. It’s now decorated with two ugly tears.

There was nothing much that we could do other than return home.

Well, that’s the first time I have been chased by a dog.

Woof!
