During a light moment

Part 3: Nobel Laureate Focus Dialogues

This activity is simply the focus loci of the whole forum. Nobel laureates from the fields of Physics and also Medical Science are invited to engage in discussions with participants. These discussions are based upon the central theme of scientific innovation.  Over a 4 dialogue sessions, participants get to interact with the Nobel Laureates and also gain insights into the sparks that rocketed them towards discovering the next paradigm shift.

Participants are split up into groups and assigned to separate rooms. This creates an impersonal and relaxed atmosphere. I will let the pictures do the talking.

Nobel Laureates answering questions.

The participants. Note the male participant on the right nodding away. It was quite common.

During a light moment

I had the chance to witness 2 interesting phenomena.

One: Western professors are much livelier and creative than Asian professors. During dialogues, the Nobel laureates were mostly accompanied by an Asian professor acting as a co-speaker. Our Asian professors were much more rigid, and boring in comparison.

Two: The top 25 schools of Malaysia really produce top students. The delegate from Kuala Kangsar Malay College had the guts to ask not one, but two “interesting” questions.

When will we be able to time travel?

Why don’t you travel into the future and come back to tell us?

How much energy does a Russian Vacuum bomb contain?

You have been playing too much Command and Conquer huh?

Interesting delegate he is. We had our humour buds tickled, for sure.
